MOTORISTS face more than a month of misery on one of Huddersfield’s busiest roads in the New Year.

Gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks, (NGN), is set to replace the ageing gas main at Edgerton Road.

The company says it will be necessary to introduce traffic management from Sunday, January 7, until Saturday, February 10.

The existing four-way lights will be replaced with temporary three-way lights on Blacker Road, Edgerton Road and New North Road.

In addition, a road closure will be placed on Edgerton Grove Road, with a fully signed diversion route taking motorists to the A640 Trinity Street, Fitzwilliam Street and the A629 New North Road.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in Huddersfield, to ensure the continued supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come and is due to be completed in March.

NGN’s Customer Care team says it has kept customers updated on progress throughout the project, and will continue to provide updates as the work continues.

Chris Nevison, business operations lead for NGN, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible.”
