Wagner faces midfield conundrum over Xmas

- By RORY BENSON @examinerHTAFC

TOWN head coach David Wagner has been remarkably consistent with his central midfield selections so far this season.

Philip Billing, Jonathan Hogg and Aaron Mooy have been the boss’ go-to men this term, with the trio starting 11 matches together in the heart of Terriers’ set-up. But with Australia international Mooy sidelined with a medial ligament injury, and back up Danny Williams also ruled out with a similar problem, Wagner will have to move away from his tried and trusted combination until at least the new year.

The boss brought Juninho Bacuna into the side last weekend against Newcastle United, with the 21-year-old impressing on his first ever Premier League start. But Wagner does have other options in the middle of the park, should he choose to rotate personnel once again this weekend.

Last year, Florent Hadergjonaj stepped into the role a number of times and even earned our man-ofthe-match award for his display in the position in the away defeat at Manchester United. And the Switzerland international is ready to go should he be drafted into the engine room once again this weekend. He said: “I don’t care what position the manager wants me to play, even if he says to play as a striker I will play as a striker.”

Jon Gorenc Stankovic could be another man the boss calls upon to play in midfield after doing so against Manchester City, while Abdelhamid Sabiri is on the injury list after breaking his collarbone in the loss to Bournemouth.
