Former England captain Cook, who was knighted in the New Year Honours List, retired from international cricket in September, memorably signing off with a century against India.

The 34-year-old said: “I’m really looking forward to joining the BBC in the Caribbean and having Jonathan Agnew as my new team-mate.

“This England Test side played some great cricket in Sri Lanka and it will be fascinating to see how they get on in the West Indies.”

Cook is set to join the reporting team for the second and third Tests of the tour, which start on January 31 and February 9 respectively. The first Test starts in Barbados on January 23.
