Van La Parra seals switch to the Boro

- By MEL BOOTH

TOWN wingman Rajiv van La Parra has joined Championship side Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has followed Ramadan Sobhi (Al Ahly) out of the John Smith’s Stadium at the start of the January transfer window.

Dutchman Van La Parra hasn’t featured in the Premier League for Town since they drew 1-1 at Burnley - who come to Town on Wednesday night – back in October.

He travelled to Teesside last week to have a medical and watched Boro – wearing a Middlesbrough club coat – as they beat Ipswich Town 2-0 on Saturday.

Van La Parra was seen beforehand shaking hands with Boro chairman Steve Gibson in the directors’ box before kick-off.

After the game, Boro manager Tony Pulis said: “He’s an exciting player who’s got pace. He adds to what we need. I don’t think there’s any question of his pedigree, he’s got promoted out of this league with Wolves and Huddersfield.

“I spoke to Dean Whitehead, who was a good player for me at Stoke and is a great lad, and he’s given me a great recommendation on him as a person, not just as a player.

“Danny Batth has played with him, George Saville has played with him, so he’s got decent pedigree and good pace. That’s what we want.”

Town head coach David Wagner explained: “Rajiv is 27 and understandably wants to play regular football, which is not something I can offer him at Huddersfield Town right now. We wish him the best of luck at Middlesbrough for the rest of the season.”

The former Wolves player’s contract at Town runs until the summer of 2020, with the club having an option on a further season.
