Give us ways to help us thrive and survive
AN action plan to help Holmfirth high street thrive and survive has been published in a Governmentcommissioned report.
The High Street Report, written by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), proposes radical recommendations to revitalise Britain’s struggling city and town centres.
Holmfirth was one of six English towns and cities to be studied for the report which was commissioned to help Minister for the High Street, Jake Berry, and an expert panel save the British High Street.
Principal investigator for the project, Steve Millington, said: “The fact that high streets are subject to so many forces of change means we cannot just hope for the best. Our report demonstrates that local action can be very effective and, using the evidence collected in the workshops, we have been able to present some ideas that can help all places.”
It is hoped the project will complement the Government’s new ‘High Streets Task Force’ and a £675m ‘Future High Street Fund’.
Among the report’s recommendation were: Make sure parking restrictions and charges are not driving people out of the town centre
Council should encourage tenants and landlords to think innovatively about how to use empty properties
