Blake film highlights the folly of Universal Credit
PAUL Routledge’s article on “I Daniel Blake” highlighting the cruelty of “Universal Credit” says everything about this ghastly Government (Tories should all watch Blake film, Huddersfield Examiner, January 9).
Of course Theresa May won’t have watched the film because she is afraid of the truth and Ken Loach’s film portrays exactly what is happening to people all over the country.
The acting is first class and portrays gently and truthfully what is happening to ordinary folk.
Everyone should watch it and realise what a dreadful mistake this action has been.
When it was rolled out in Batley Tracey Brabin made an impassioned plea to Parliament to halt the scheme because of the misery it was causing her constituents.
Recently the Government said it was halting the scheme for the time being – so it is a sop to Ian Duncan Smith who is/was the architect! This man encompasses everything that is wrong with the scheme.
He hails he has transformed society and that unemployment is at it’s lowest but this rich dimwit is desperately wrong-headed with no idea of the damage he has done to ordinary folk.
Of course the real culprit preventing “Universal Credit” toping the political agenda is Brexit, this interminable subject means the Government can bury bad news because Brexit dominates the news. I expect May, who has already said she will stand down before the next election, will soldier on – but let us not forget the real villain of this unholy mess - David Cameron – in his vainglorious attempt to secure a good reputation has left us high and dry!. THE Alzheimer’s Society will mark its 40th anniversary this year, celebrating our on-going commitment to stopping dementia in its tracks.
I’d like to thank everyone who united against dementia last year by fundraising, campaigning and volunteering, helping us challenge perceptions, fund research and improve and provide care and support.
With more than 67,000 people living with dementia in Yorkshire and the Humber, the need to unite in the fight against the condition has never been more pressing.
There are so many ways your readers can get involved in 2019 and what better time to take on a new challenge. From becoming a volunteer – either for our Side by Side service or at this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon where we are Charity of the Year – to fundraising, campaigning to Fix Dementia Care or signing up to join dementia research.
Whether you give an hour, a day or more, please visit alzheimers.org.uk/getinvolved to find out how you can unite against dementia.
