Yorkshire are closing in on appointing a new batting coach.

The interview stage is set to start, with the White Rose firstteam coach Andrew Gale revealing there have been some very strong applicants for the role.

“We’re going to be interviewing in the next few weeks,” he told the club’s website. “Depending on whoever we appoint, I’m hopeful by South Africa (and the pre-season tour to Potchefstroom) we’ll have someone in place as long as it fits with the person’s own situation.

“We’ve had applicants from all over the world, some really big names, some guys who have worked in county cricket and others who haven’t.

“We’ve narrowed that down and will interview those shortly.”

Meanwhile, Yorkshire youngsters George Hill and Dom Leach have been named in the England Young Lions squad to tour Bangladesh later this month.
