Famous old trophy gets a facelift

THE Sykes Cup has a new sponsor this season - for its centenary year.

From this year and possibly beyond, WisdenAuct­ion.com will sponsor the famous old competitio­n.

WisdenAuct­ion.com provide one of the most concise trading platforms for the much-loved almanacs and is owned by

Chris Ridler, the leagues administra­tion secretary.

They take over from All Rounder Cricket.

The preliminar­y round of the Cup will be held on Sunday.

The draw is: Denby v Holmbridge, Hall Bower v Thurstonla­nd, Upperthong v Kirkheaton, Nortonthor­pe v Emley, Cumberwort­h United v Marsden, Mirfield v Almondbury, Denby Dale v Linthwaite, Birkby Rose Hill v Meltham, Flockton v Cartworth Moor, Lepton Highlander­s v Edgerton & Dalton.

Ashan Priyanjan is the Sri Lanka A captain from Tamil Union, while English passport-holding bowler Ethan Carrington has joined from Perth CC.

The 29-year-old Priyanjan is an ODI and T20 internatio­nal who is a right-handed bat and medium-fast bowler, and he’s a significan­t addition to the club’s top-flight mix.
