Family affair for the Waqabaca’s

-

FOR every home game the club kindly donates two tickets to HGSA for the directors seats together with bar passes. We then draw a member’s name from a hat and the tickets are handed over.

At the last minute, the recipient for the Castleford game could not attend, so we ‘gave them away’ in return for a donation.

The lady whom they went to was Alisi Waqabaca.

Back in 1965 Fartown brought over four Fijians to play for the club. They were: John Ravitale, a forward, playing seven matches; Josefa Saukuru, another forward, who played eight times; Tomasi Naidole, a back, playing twice; and Tomasi Waqabaca, a winger, playing 20 times.

Tom Waqabaca scored three tries, against Whitehaven Workington, and Rochdale Hornets.

In later years, Tom Naidole’s son, Joe, went on to play the Claret and Gold.

Alisi is Tom Waqabaca’s daughter and lives in Huddersfield, having recently moved back to the town. She wanted to show her husband his first game of rugby league. It naturally had to be the team her father had played for all those years ago.

■After the successful foodbank donation point at our first home game in February, we are pleased to be hosting another one at our upcoming home game with London Broncos on Easter Monday. Please donate anything you can.

For details of what items are needed see the information on the Welcome centre website https://www. thewelcomecentre.org/

Look out for the bin outside the Legends Bar from 1pm to drop any donations in.

■We are pleased to announce that in partnership with Michael Lawrence testimonial, we are hosting a kids’ disco at the Gas Club, July 20, 2-4pm.
