Lockwood go clear with Cowcliffe win

CHAMPIONS Lockwood Con A came out winners in the Section 1 top-two-tussle when overcoming visitors Cowcliffe by 7-2.

That gives them a six-point lead over Clayton West, who moved into second place following a 7-2 home win over Elland C&BC A.

Meltham A and Waterloo both lost for a third consecutiv­e game, while Marsh Utd A picked up their first win of the season.

The outcome of the top-four teams meeting each other last week in Section 2 leaves Thorpe Green six points ahead after beating fourth-placed Lockwood Con B 7-2.

Sat level in second place are Hemplow A and Kirkheaton Con A who met last Tuesday when the Cons used home advantage to run out 6-3 winners.

Paddock I&C and Brockholes B both won for the third time and sit level at the top of the Section 3 table.

They in turn are just two points ahead of Bradley & Colne who had a super 8-1 away win at Holmfirth A which sent them spiralling down to the relegation places alongside Almondbury BC B who are already looking a little off the pace in this Section.

In Section 4 there are currently three unbeaten team records and three no-win records as well.

Lowerhouse­s, Ravensknow­le Park A and Denby Dale all continued their good opening form. Lowerhouse­s had a great 8-1 away win at Thongsbrid­ge B with the Park hitting the maximum 9-0 scoreline when overwhelmi­ng Canalside.

One point separates the bottom four teams with Thongsbrid­ge B being the only one of them with a win under their belts as the B teams from Milnsbridg­e, Elkland C&BC and New Mill are still looking for a first win of the season.

Lindley BC B obliterate­d previously unbeaten Dalton by the ultimate 9-0 score to go clear at the top of the Section 5 table.

Marsh Lib sit four points behind them after a tight 5-4 home win over Greenhead Park with identical aggregate scores.

Three teams sit one point behind Marsh Lib with Kirkheaton Con B and Ravensknow­le Park B both having big away wins while David Brown Sports also won heavy by 7-2 at home to Kirkheaton C&BC B.

The 6-Man League started their season this week and all the big guns in Section A opened up with good wins Champions Netherton Con had a good 5-2 away win at Farnley Tyas whilst Crosland Moor, Shepley A, Milnsbridg­e and promoted Lindley Lib A also had winning starts to their seasons.

The winners of the two derby matches in Section B currently sit at the top of the table with the Skel Windmill A side overcoming their B team clubmates by 6-1 and the Cricket and Bowling Club side won the Golcar derby by the same scoreline over their local rivals from the Liberal Club.

The two returning teams from Longwood and Lockwood Con also had winning returns to the League.

There were only two 7-0 scorelines in this week’s programme and they both came in Section C with Meltham and Marsh United claiming maximum points and now sit joint top of the table. New boys Marsden Park and Greenhead Park also had good opening day wins.
