Sigsworth worked hard in rearranged finals
THE Huddersfield and District Works League re-arranged 2018 Crown Green Bowls Association singles handicap final, took place at Linthwaite Cricket and Bowling Club.
The event was sponsored by Linthwaite Cricket and Bowling Club.
In the quarter-finals Graham Sigsworth warmed up with a 21-12 win, against Storthes Hall player Luke Morgan.
Yorkshire County Recorder Stephen Haigh beat homester Gary Baxter 21-15, which could have gone either way at 14 across.
Huddersfield Works League president John Lindley was 19-15 up against Nathan Haigh, but an unanswered break of six cost him the game 21-19.
In the last quarter-final, Malcolm Branch, owner and sponsor of Branch Joinery, was playing in his first ever final. Malcolm played really well to beat experienced player Graham Whitehouse 21-17.
In the semi-finals Sigsworth carried on with his fine form from the first game and beat Stephen Haigh
21-15.
The second semi-final was a comfy win for Nathan Haigh beating Malcolm Branch 21-9.
The final was a good game and both Graham and Nathan matched each other at 13-13 across with each leading similar marks.
Graham played two good bowls to lead 15-13 and Nathan never got the lead back.
Graham played very near over the last few ends and although Nathan struck a few times, he couldn’t stop a now retired and rejuvenated Graham Sigsworth, winning 21-17.
Harking back to the old times when he and his brother Paul won nearly every bowling competition to be won in Huddersfield.
Works League President Mr John Lindley handed out the prize money to the finalists and Graham paid tribute to Linthwaite CBC for sponsoring the competition and for the spectators who braved the cold weather to stop and watch the final.
