Plan could see house flattened

A DETACHED home could be flattened to open up access to a land locked housing site.

Developers are plotting a scheme for up to 48 houses next to the green belt in Mirfield.

They want to build on fields allocated for housing in Kirklees Council’s planning blueprint, the Local Plan.

But the site off Northorpe Lane on the edge of the town has no easy access, so a proposal has been developed to demolish one home to create a new access road onto the land behind.

The development is on land owned by number 28 Northorpe Lane, which is set to be sacrificed in a bid to create the new scheme.

The identity of the housing firm behind the plan has not yet been revealed.

The application to Kirklees Council is only for approval of the scheme in principle and the access plan.

If it’s given the go-ahead, a detailed layout and designs would be submitted at a later date.

However, the architects behind the scheme have submitted an indicative layout.

In their application they say: “The site can deliver a mix of housing types and sizes including 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms, in an attractive landscaped setting whilst making ample provision for natural open spaces.

“The illustrative site layout plan shows a mix of unit types including detached, semi-detached and terraced housing.”

While 48 homes could fit on the plot, the proposed plan is to build 34 three-bed and ten four bed houses.

Public consultation on the proposal runs until August 19.
