Sentences served up by magistrates
DOZENS of criminals are dealt with by Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in Huddersfield every day.
Magistrates have the powers to jail defendants for up to six months for one offence or 12 months in total for a number of offences.
They can also hand down fines of up to £5,000.
All magistrates are unpaid volunteers and they only receive expenses for the work they do.
With more serious offences they will send a defendant to Crown Court for sentencing.
Here are the latest cases from the courts. and assaulted two police officers and used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour on John William Street on June 14. Jailed for 12 weeks concurrent and ordered to pay a £115 surcharge.
Megan Woodhead, 20, of Glenside Road. Damaged a double glazed glass window to the value of £300 belonging to Kirklees Council on Mitchell Avenue on May 14. Discharged conditionally for six months, ordered to pay £100 compensation, a £20 surcharge and £85 costs.
Aaron Lee Bolton, 30, of Beech Street, Paddock. Committed assault in Cambridge on April 21. Discharged conditionally for six months and ordered to pay a £20 surcharge.
Paride Anthony Cockerham, 29, of Ingleton Road, Newsome. Drink driving on namely Foldings Parade, Scholes on June 15. Fined £186, ordered to pay a £30 surcharge and £85 costs. Banned from driving for 36 months.
Christopher Duffy, 49, of Lockbridge Way, Milnsbridge. Failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis when suspected of having committed an offence at Lockwood Scar, Lockwood on June 17. Fined £246, ordered to pay a £30 surcharge and £85 costs. Banned from driving for 14 months.
Jermain Faal, 28, of Fountains Avenue, Batley. Had in custody a mask, crow bar, balaclava and gloves in order to damage property belonging to Betfred, Commercial Street, Batley, on June 16, committed while subject to a community order. Dealt with for original offence of criminal damage. Community order made for exclusion requirement to last for 12 months, rehabilitation activity requirement for up to 25 days and unpaid work requirement to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months, ordered to pay an £85 surcharge.
Wayne Gundry, 51, of Chapel Croft, Rastrick. Assaulted a police officer on New Hey Road on June 14 and failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis when suspected of having committed an offence in Dewsbury on June 15. Community order made for unpaid work requirement to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months, ordered to pay £100 compensation, an £85 surcharge and £85 costs. Banned from driving for six months.
Adam Southernwood, 26, of Coniston Avenue, Dalton. Drink driving on namely Albany Road, Dalton, on June 17. Fined £500, ordered to pay a £50 surcharge, £85 costs and banned from driving for 36 months
Faisal Ali, 26, of Northstead, Dewsbury. Driving while disqualified and without insurance on namely Ravens Lodge, Scout Hill, on June 19. Fined £120, ordered to pay a £30 surcharge, £85 costs and banned from driving for 6 months.
Daniel Cunningham, 28, of Greenwood Apartments, Netherfield Road, Dewsbury. Possession of an offensive weapon namely a metal pole in a public place namely Huddersfield Road, Ravensthorpe, on June 19. Jailed for 16 weeks, ordered to pay a surcharge of £115 and £85 costs.
Michael Patrick Dunbar, 43, of Manchester Road, Crosland Moor. Assaulted a police officer at Manchester Road, Crosland Moor, on June 19. Discharged conditionally for 12 months and ordered to pay a £20 surcharge.
Michael Haley, 37, of Shirley Avenue, Gomersal, Cleckheaton. Drink driving on namely Cartwright Street, Hightown, Cleckheaton. Fined £300, ordered to pay a £30 surcharge, £85 costs and banned from driving for 14 months.
Bogdan Polak, 47, of Leeds Road, Littletown, Liversedge, Kirklees. Drink driving without a licence and without insurance on namely Aldams Road on March 20. Fined £233, ordered to pay a £30 surcharge, £85 costs and banned from driving for 22 months.
Laura Elizabeth Keenan, 29, of Orlando Close, Mirfield. Drunk and disorderly behaviour in a public place, namely Northway, Mirfield on June 19. Discharged conditionally for 12 months, ordered to pay a £20 surcharge and £85 costs. namely a set of Cobra golf clubs, a golf bag, golf trophies, a Ping putter and driver worth a total of £1,500, at Church Lane, Mirfield, on November 7, 2018. Also found in possession of Diamorphine, a controlled Class A drug, at Trinity Street, Huddersfield, on August 9, 2018. Also found in possession of cocaine at New Hey Road, on the same date. Community order made with rehabilitation activity requirement to attend supervised appointments for up to 15 days. Ordered to pay £200 compensation and £85 costs and the drugs to be forfeited and destroyed.
David Scatterty, also known as David Harris, 29, of Twelfth Avenue, Hightown, Liversedge. Damaged a BMW, causing damage of £1,207 at Scholes Lane, Scholes, on November 4, 2018. Fined £154 and ordered to pay £1,207 compensation with £400 costs.
