Summer Wine’s ‘Pearl’ gravely ill in a hospice
SITCOM FAVOURITE JULIETTE SAYS ‘TA-TA AND IT’S BEEN FUN’
LAST of the Summer Wine favourite Juliette Kaplan is ‘gravely ill’ in a hospice, her agent has said on Twitter.
Juliette played Pearl in the popular Holmfirth comedy.
Her agent Barry Langford tweeted on July 31: “Our long-term client and good friend Juliette Kaplan is gravely ill. She has asked me to thank everyone who has sent their good wishes and, in her words, to say ‘ta-ta and it’s been fun.’ She’s a very brave lady.”
Hundreds of fans responded sending their love and support.
Elstree Studios chairman Morris Bright MBE tweeted: “Greatly saddened to hear that actress Juliette Kaplan is so gravely ill. A battleaxe in Last of the Summer Wine but the loveliest of ladies in real life, we shared many happy times together on location in Yorkshire.
“She is in the thoughts and prayers of her legions of fans.”

Barry also tweeted: “Though Juliette Kaplan is still in the hospice, she has asked me to send another HUGE thank you to everyone who has sent her supportive messages. She’s been genuinely touched and hugely cheered by the amazing kindness of the Twitter community.”
Juliette, from Bournemouth, played Howard’s wife Pearl from 1985-2010. She also appeared in a one-actor show as Pearl, touring around British theatres.
In 2015 she appeared in Coronation Street as Agnes Tinker. Now aged 80, she lives in Kent.
