A WOMAN who stole a trolley full of nappies from Asda said she was pressured into it by her ‘bullying’ son.
Security staff caught Tarsen Chahal outside the Fixby store shortly before 11am on August 23.
She had tried to leave without paying for a trolley filled with £150 worth of nappies.
Prosecutor Alex Bozman said: “She made remarks about wanting to go to prison to escape from somebody because she was unable to cope.
“She said she was having difficulties in managing her son.”
The 54-year-old pleaded guilty to theft from a shop.
Kirklees magistrates heard that she is on benefits and suffers from a number of health difficulties including anxiety, diabetes, arthritis and epilepsy.
Her solicitor Fazaila Kauser said: “She received a long list from her son who said: ‘I need these for my children’ and she felt under pressure.
“She knew what she was doing was wrong and is extremely sorry for her actions.
“She’s got a son who bullies her and asks her to buy him stuff.
“She is now getting help and is in a position where she can say to her son she can not help him any further.”
Magistrates handed Chahal, of Birkhead Close in Highburton, a 12 month conditional discharge.
This means that she will not be punished if she stays out of trouble for the next year.
She will still have to pay £85 court costs and £21 victim surcharge.
