Invention hits the market in son’s memory
DAD LAUNCHES ANTI-FLOOD BRICK ONE YEAR ON FROM TRAGIC DEATH
A DAD has brought his son’s business invention to market – exactly a year on from his death.
Tragically Tony Ruddiman lost his son Luke to cancer on December 17 last year – but was determined to keep his son’s business dream alive.
Tony and Luke founded The Flood Company and early last year Luke was recognised as One to Watch by The Manufacturer and listed in Insider’s 42 Under 42.
He was a rising star and invented the Buffalo Anti-Flood Airbrick, an airbrick that seals automatically during flooding to prevent water entering a building.
After his son’s death Tony continued the business and continued to develop the Buffalo, which has just been launched.
The airbrick, made in Britain, meets the latest British Standard and has a unique transparent design.
Company director Tony, of Edgerton, paid tribute to his son and added: “Luke was very passionate and instrumental in the development and design of the Buffalo Anti-Flood Airbrick right up until to the very end.
“He was committed to creating products that made a difference to both communities and individuals affected from the devastating impact of flooding as evidenced through the accolades he achieved in 2018.
“I am delighted that we have finally been able to bring his vision for this product to market and will continue to make such a positive difference to those at risk of flooding.”
To commemorate Luke’s life, a percentage of sales of the airbrick will go to Maggie’s Yorkshire which supported Luke and continues to support his family and friends.
Luke died eight days after his wedding and just nine months after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. His family and friends have now raised £26,000 in his name.
The Flood Company won the Innovation and Enterprise Award at the Examiner Business Awards in 2016 when Luke was managing director.
