Town left frustrated at two points lost at the Latics...

- By STEVEN CHICKEN @examinerHTAFC

Beyond that and a dodgy Simpson backpass that nearly let Windass in again ten minutes after the break, Wigan produced no major chances of note.

Throw in that Mounie had a header cleared off the line and that Town had a penalty appeal turned down for a non-existent foul by Mounie before the clear Wigan handball, and you come away from this game with little to dissuade you from the notion that this was a winnable game and that these are therefore two points dropped. anticipated. The problem he has is that they have not come in games where Town were already 3-0 up and coasting. Instead, through sheer rotten luck, they have cost the side four points that would have seen them go level with Derby in 16th.

Making it worse for Grabara is that it was a mistake we all saw coming, too. He has had a couple of hairy moments of his own making with the ball at his feet inside his own box already this season, and we have commented before that it was only a matter of time before someone exploited that. This was that time... and, hopefully, the only time.

In our view, the few calls we’ve seen on social media for him to be dropped or sent back to Liverpool are an over-reaction. Grabara has not looked for a second like repeating the other mistake he made – dropping a corner ball against

Millwall – and the key is whether he does likewise with this error and starts adopting more of a safety-first approach. If he does, Town will have a perfectly good shot-stopping goalkeeper for the rest of the season.

Just don’t expect perfection, there’s probably one or two more howlers in him yet before the end of the campaign. By and large, that’s just the level of goalkeeping in the Championship.
