Plea for ‘variety’ of models for artists

- By BEN ABBISS ben.abbiss@reachplc.com @BenAbbiss

A NEW life drawing class in Huddersfield town centre is on the look out for new models and “variety is most welcome.”

Huddersfield Life Drawing will hold its first session at the Kirkgate Gallery, above the Merrie England Cafe on Kirkgate, on Tuesday, February 11.

The class has been set up by local artists Carly Morris and Keith Hanselman, who will be on hand offer tips and advice if needed.

Carly, who previously ran a small class from a cafe in Elland, said: “We have some models lined up already, but models can certainly get in touch as variety is most welcome.”

The two-hour classes are open to experienced artists and total beginners alike, as long as they are aged 18 or above.

They cost just £6 to attend and all materials are included.

Carly said: “The session will typically consist of short ‘warm-up’ drawing exercises. Then a short break offers an opportunity to exchange guidance and tips. A longer pose is then drawn in the second half.

She added: “I hope to debunk any misconceptions about life drawing being seedy, old fashioned or obsolete.

“Life drawing is as relevant as ever and is a fantastically therapeutic way for people to practice some drawing.

“This life drawing will class allow people to create their own drawings and develop their skills independently.”

The classes will run on the second Tuesday of every month, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, at the Kirkgate Gallery.

Anyone who is interested in attending, either as an artist or a model, should contact Carly on morriscarlyjane@gmail.com
