YM kick off 2020 with rampant win
RUGBY UNION Huddersfield YMCA Under-16s got back to winning ways following their disappointment of being knocked out of the Yorkshire Plate at the quarter-final stage with a 60-5 win over Dukinfield.
In the first game of the new year, it didn’t take long for full-back Archie Roberts to finish a move and register the first score of the game on four minutes. Luke Earnshaw added the conversion.
And on 12 minutes, YM fly-half Earnshaw crashed over and added the extras to extend the lead.
Gaps now started to appear across
Meanwhile, Giants’ shirt sponsor for the new Betfred Super League season is local commercial vehicle supplier Northern Commercials.
Northern Commercials is an established brand with dealerships in Brighouse, Manchester, Liverpool, Northampton, Dunstable and Tonbridge. Roger Peel, managing director of Northern Commercials, said: “Northern Commercials are pleased to announce sponsorship of Huddersfield Giants for the upcoming 2020 season in the Super League.
“We have long been involved in sports sponsorship and we like to support local high-profile teams which we see as a move to give the field and a clever cross-field kick was collected on the full for Roberts to add another try.
Dylan Chaplin was having a magnificent game and he got the next converted try by barging a couple of would-be tacklers out of the way, before grabbing a first-half hat-trick just two minutes later.
Full credit must go Dukinfield though as they didn’t allow their heads to drop and they fought for everything, and their big number eight picked the ball up and crashed over on the stroke of half time.
At the break, the YM used the something back to the community.
“As a business, we like to align ourselves with organisations that place an emphasis on corporate social responsibility and the way in which Huddersfield Giants run initiatives through the community is an example of that. We would like to take this opportunity to wish Simon Woolford and his team the very best for the upcoming season.”
Huddersfield Giants commercial director Andrew Watson said: “Huddersfield Giants are delighted to welcome commercial vehicle supplier Northern Commercials onto the front of our team playing shirts for the 2020 season.
“As we enter our 18th consecutive season in the top flight of rugby league, we look forward to bringing Northern Commercials lots of local, regional and national coverage.
“To bring such a large and prestigious business as Northern Commercials is tremendous and we thank MD Roger Peel and his colleagues.”
UNDERBANK Rangers have been drawn at home against Distington ARL in the second round of the Coral Challenge Cup.
National Conference Premier Rangers have never played the Cumbria-based amateur side, who won the Cumberland Cup last year.
Hinchliffe darted through for his first try of the season just after the restart and just a few minutes later winger Nathan Wingfield finished in style.
The tries kept coming as Chaplin touched down and Roberts scorched 50 metres to score his fourth try of the game.
Earnshaw once again added the extras and he closed the scoring out in the last minutes of the game as he also broke the line on half-way to score, before adding the conversion.
The man of the match awards went to second-rower Archie Walsh and prop Layton Morris.
