Kar can steer back on right track

- By STEVEN CHICKEN

KARLAN Grant’s goal against Wigan on December 14 meant he continued his run of not having gone three games without a goal this season. He hasn’t found the net since, meaning it’s now just one goal in nine.

Grant is not entirely to blame for that. He has played an awful lot of football and could probably do with a rest.

Before Saturday’s defeat by Barnsley he had played all but 10 of Town’s Championship minutes this season. And it is up to his teammates to do more to create chances and, crucially, space for him to do what he does best.

But it’s also true he has not quite been at his best over the last month or so. We used to be able to rely on him scoring even when he was having a quiet game - not so much anymore, and

there have been too many quiet games. If he stays beyond this January window then we know he is talented enough to come good again, but it says a lot that scarcely a peep was made from the away end when his number went up at the break to make way for Steve Mounie at Oakwell.

With rumours doing the rounds about Grant’s future at the John Smith’s stadium, fans will not only be hoping for a return to form soon, but that he will still be wearing blue and white come February 1. 18+, UK only.
