END OF AN ERA
FAMILY CARPET FIRM CLOSES ITS DOORS AFTER MORE THAN 50 YEARS IN BUSINESS
A WELL-KNOWN Huddersfield carpet firm which has traded for more than 50 years has gone into liquidation.
Family-run PP Marron Carpets Ltd, based at Wakefield Road, Waterloo, has closed its doors for the last time.
Two generations of the Marron family have served scores of homes and businesses since 1968 and are renowned throughout the region.
The company’s slogan was: ‘We Buy By the Mile, you Save by the Yard.’ It was a familiar refrain for many.
Stephen and Dawn Marron failed to sell the business as a going concern last year. They then took the difficult decision to cease trading on Christmas Eve.
Huddersfield-based insolvency practitioners Poppleton and Appleby have been instructed to place the company into liquida- tion.
An auction sale of all the remain- ing stock and fittings is being prepared by auctioneers, Walker Singleton, and due to take place later this month.
Daniel Hey, director at Walker Singleton, said: “Marron’s shop at Waterloo junction has been a landmark for decades.
“During our time on site many customers have visited and lamented the loss of the family friendly service they always received.
“It is testament to the family that the stock that remains is meticulously stock controlled and all of lengths, quality and style where it

would be hard not to find something to fit most requirements.
“Our auction will list rolls individually to allow bidders to bid and buy for usable room and above size carpets.
“I am confident the auction will draw high levels of interest given the business well respected name.”
