Revealed, new plan for £150m airport terminal

LEEDS Bradford Airport is to get a new £150 million terminal.

Bosses at LBA have announced the existing terminal building, which was built in 1965, will be demolished and a new three-floor 34,000 square metre terminal will be built.

A planning applicatio­n will be submitted shortly and they hope constructi­on will begin by the end of 2020.

If all goes to plan they will open the new terminal in 2023.

The airport, which is privately owned and is the 15th busiest in the UK, is aiming for 7m passengers by 2030, despite protests from environmen­talists, and Leeds City Council is looking to build a new station nearby to improve access for passengers.

Airport bosses were looking to redevelop and extend the current terminal building, but they have now decided on a new terminal.

They also say the new terminal will be one of the most environmen­tally efficient buildings in the world and they are looking to reduce emissions from airport operations (not including flights) to net zero by 2023.
