Senior’s all fired up for a Giant season!

- By SASHA JOYCE

HUDDERSFIELD Giants’ Louis Senior is itching to get into the new Betfred Super League season, and feels the squad is ready to get into action.

The Claret and Gold had their first outing on Sunday, beating Halifax 42-6 at the John Smith’s Stadium to lift the Infirmary Cup in Jermaine McGillvary’s testimonial.

They are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Wakefield. They then face Batley away on Sunday, January 26, before the action starts for real with their Super League opener at Catalans Dragons on February 1.

And winger Senior, who has played 18 first-team games for the club, can’t wait to add to his tally.

“I’m looking forward to the new season as it’s been a long pre-season and I feel ready to get into the games,” he said.

“Training is a lot harder preseason, but it does get us ready for games and I do miss playing.”

After a tough 2019 campaign, Senior maintains the squad is ready to compete, with some tipping the Giants as outside bets for a playoff place this season,

“We’re all physically ready to start the season and the skills are starting to come together,” he said.

“I’m excited for the year and think we are ready to play as a team.”

The head coach has strengthend his squad over the off-season, bringing in Aidan Sezer, Kenny Edwards and James Gavet among others.

Senior believes the class the new boys have will be a huge plus point for the Giants, and believes the decision to appoint NRL Grand Finalist Sezer as captain is the right decision, even though he is in his first year at the club.

“I think the new signings they have brought in has really helped as they have some class and some real strong players,” he told the club’s website.

“Aidan Sezer is just a natural leader and is such an important role model and a really good player.

“I expect him to have a good year. Day to day he gets on with everyone. He’s a good guy.

“He is a perfect captain and Simon (Woolford) made a good choice.” ■■Tickets for the Giants’ first home game of 2020 against Leeds Rhinos (Sunday, February 9, at 3pm) are now on sale online and from the Giants ticket office.
