DAYS AFTER ONLINE CASH APPEAL

FRIENDS and well-wishers are raising money to support the family of Robert Wilson who was stabbed to death outside his workplace in Linthwaite a week ago.

More than £1,600 has been donated since a Go Fund Me page was set up three days ago by Sharon Hine, a local woman who wanted to help the family.

She set a target of £1,000 but this was quickly passed.

On the fundraising page, she said: “On the 16th of January 2020, Rob was at work and instead of going home to his family, sadly his life was taken in unforeseen and tragic circumstances.

“Rob, described as a loving husband and father by his devastated wife Elaine and his two step children Jack and Ella, (was) also a much-liked character by his work colleagues.

“Rob will be sadly missed by many. This page is set up entirely to help his bereaved family in this difficult time.”

More than 120 people have made online donations, with many of them leaving comments about Mr Wilson’s tragic death.

One donor said: “I didn’t know you sir, but from what people say, you were a very loved and liked man. I have also shared this and hope that this at least helps your family in this tough time.”

Another posted: “Rob was a lovely man. Only knew him a short time. Taken far too soon from his loved ones and friends.”

One donor said: “RIP Rob. Great guy. Glad I got to meet you. Sending love to your family, friends and all that have been affected by this mindless tragedy.”

One woman said: “This dear man was just doing his job and his poor family must be so devastated, saying goodbye when he went to work and never to talk to him again.”

Two teenagers accused or murdering Mr Wilson, 53, outside the Thornton and Ross factory, may have a trial in July this year.

Kiyran Earnshaw, 18, and a boy, 15, who cannot be named as he is a youth, appeared at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday this week.

Both defendants are charged with murder and possessing an offensive weapon.
