Right attitude is vital, says Woolford

- By JOE BUCK

SIMON Woolford has insisted Giants must go to Craven Park tonight with the right attitude if they are to maintain their perfect start to the season.

After victories over Catalans Dragons and Salford Red Devils, the Claret and Gold are the only side left in Super League not to lose this season.

But for Woolford, that means nothing tonight.

“It’s nice to be unbeaten, obviously it’s only early in the year, but what we’ve done is give ourselves a good base to build off and another step in that is tonight,” said the head coach.

“We need to make sure we go to Hull with the right attitude. Conditions aren’t going to be great again, it’s not going to allow us to play the footy we would like to play. been excellent in the lead-up to the fixture.

We’re a tight group with some real leaders in the paddock and we’re looking to put down a marker ourselves and show the rest of Super League that our performances in the first two game

“But as long as we go there with a plan to get our D (defence) right, like we have done the first couple of rounds, then I think we will be okay.

“One thing we need to make sure weeks weren’t a fluke. We’re here to be competitive throughout the season and this week will be another real test to achieve our goals for 2020.

Craven Park is, I’m told, a really tough place to play and the home fans are vociferous and want to get on top of you. This is one of the tests you face week in, week out in Super we don’t lose is our effort and commitment to one another.”

Giants have made just one change to their matchday squad from the one that defeated Salford last time out as centre Jordan Turner is nursing a slight hamstring injury and is replaced by Jake Wardle.

Wardle hasn’t featured since round one when he fractured his eye socket against Catalans.

Tonight’s game will also provide another chance for Ukuma Ta’ai, Kenny Edwards and James Gavet to increase their match fitness.

However, Giants must be wary of a Hull KR needing to prove themselves after suffering a big loss against Leeds Rhinos last weekend.

Woolford is expecting to come up against fully committed opposition and knows his side need to be ready for a battle if they want to earn the two points.

League and means that the support that our travelling contingent provides is vital.

I look forward to seeing the Cowbell Army there and in advance, would like to thank all of them for making the trip.

Let’s hope we come out of it with the two points.

“We’re expecting a committed KR, they had a result none of them will be happy with last week but they’re back at home, they’re a tough proposition at home so we’re expecting the best Hull KR team to come out,” he said.

“They’re a little bit battered with injuries at the minute so I’m sure their coach is talking about the fact they’ve got nothing to lose so they’ll go out tomorrow night and throw the footy around like they did in the early couple games.

“We need to make sure we get our D right – expect the unexpected I think is the best way of putting it with Hull KR, they’ve scored a couple of nice tries already this year by throwing the ball around.

“They’ll fancy their chances at home, and deservedly so, so we just need to make sure we get our bit right.”
