Returns of the Mach

-

ORD’S forthcoming new all-electric Mustang Mach-E has been revealed to the British public for the first time.

Ford claims the battery powered SUV will be a game changer thanks to its targeted pure-electric driving range of more than 370 miles under WLTP regulations. It’s destined, says the company “to banish range anxiety to the history books”.

The wraps came off the Mach-E at Marble Arch in London during the first of a series of roadshows which Ford is staging around the country to highlight its forthcoming range of electrified cars and vans.

Over the next 200 days, the ‘Go Electric’ roadshows will be staged at 50 venues around the UK and, according to the company, will reach an estimated audience of four million consumers. Ford says that the events are designed to “help de-mystify electrification and inspire confidence in consumers who often remain confused about the different types of electrified powertrains available and their benefits”.

Ford says it will have 14 electrified vehicles by the end of this year, growing to 18 by the end of 2021 and is promising to electrify all its future passenger vehicles at a cost of £8.5 billion.

But while it might be costing the manufacturer megabucks, Ford reckons that the fuel savings for customers generated by electrified versions of the current Fiesta, Focus and Kuga models alone could reach more than

£28 million per year.

Ford’s electrified vehicles will use a range of powertrain technologies including 48-volt mild hybrid, full hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric of which the Mustang Mach-E is far and away the most exciting.

The new flagship, highperformance SUV is expected to cost from £40,000 – £60,000 when it goes on sale at the end of the year and will offer a choice of two or four-wheel drive and standard or extended range battery packs.

It will come with a host of high-tech features including three unique drive modes. Called Whisper, Engage and Unbridled, each mode finetunes not only driving dynamics but also ambient lighting and dynamic instrument cluster animations, while even vehicle sounds are adjusted to produce an authentic all-electric experience.
