Latest cases from magistrates’ court
DOZENS of criminals are dealt with by magistrates at Kirklees every day.
Magistrates have the powers to jail defendants for up to six months for one offence, or 12 months in total for a number of offences.
They can also hand down fines of up to £5,000.
All magistrates are unpaid volunteers and they only receive expenses for the work they do.
With more serious offences they will send a defendant to Crown Court for sentencing.
Here are the latest cases from the courts. and aftershave and electrical equipment worth £199.98 from Sainsbury’s, Southgate, Huddersfield, on December 4, 2019. Committed while subject to a 12-month conditional discharge order on March 11, 2019, for an offence of assault. Community order made and ordered to attend drug rehabilitation treatment for six months, to be reviewed every two months at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court. Ordered to attend supervised appointments for up to 25 days. Cannabis, screwdriver and other items to be forfeited and destroyed. Ordered to pay £200 compensation and a £90 surcharge.
Bryn Colin Anderson, 42, of Wormald Street, Liversedge. Committed assault in Mirfield on July 14, 2019. Intentionally damaged a Huawei mobile phone worth £110 on July 1, 2019, at the same location. Community order made ordering to attend supervised appointments or to participate in specified activities for up to 30 days. Crossbow and bolts to be forfeited and destroyed. Ordered to pay £195 compensation, a £90 surcharge and £200 costs.
Afzal Dawoodji, 26 of Granville Court, Eightlands, Dewsbury. Found in possession of a kitchen knife in a public place on Halifax Road, Dewsbury, on September 11, 2019. Community order made ordering to comply with the instructions of an officer for up to 20 days, to attend appointments or activities. Ordered to pay a £90 surcharge, and £85 costs. An order was made depriving the defendant of his rights to a knife.
Winston Facey Hoyte, 44, of Crosland Street, Crosland Moor. Assaulted an emergency worker, namely two police officers, in the course of their duty, on Crosland Street, Crosland
Moor, on December 31, 2019. Community order made ordering to attend supervised appointments or to participate in specified activities for up to 15 days. Ordered to pay £100 compensation and a £90 surcharge.
Imran Najeeb, 32, of George Avenue, Birkby, Huddersfield. Committed trespass and stole three bottles of spirits and £60 in cash, at Bains Self Service, Wasp Nest Road, Huddersfield, on December 28. Also stole medication and committed trespass at Medicare Chemists, Westbourne Road, Marsh, Huddersfield, on January 13. Community order made ordering to attend appointments with an officer or participate in an activity for up to 25 days. Ordered to pay £135 compensation, an £90 surcharge, and £85 costs. Breached a community order made on December 9 for a breach of restraining order and failure to surrender.
Anthony Richard Smithey, 26, of Cedar Drive, Chickenley, Dewsbury. Driving whilst disqualified, without insurance and while using a handheld mobile telephone in Dewsbury on June 22, 2019. Community order made ordering to attend supervised appointments for up to 10 days and to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work over the next twelve months. Ordered to pay a £90 surcharge, together with £85 costs and banned from driving for 60 months.
Christopher Anthony Day, also known as Carl Richard Day, Christopher Anthony Day and Christopher Day, 34, of Church Street, Paddock. Breached a non-molestation order on December 19, 2019. Received a nine-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £21 surcharge and £85 costs.
Josh Taylor, 23, of Whitegate Road,
Newsome, Huddersfield. Purposefully damaged a glass window in Primrose Hill, Huddersfield, on August 25, 2019. Used threatening and abusive words or behaviour in Castle Hill, Almondbury, on the same date. Committed assault at Huddersfield Bus Station, Upperhead Row, on September 30, 2019. Restraining order made ordering not to contact victim. Handed an 18-month conditional discharge and fined £40 and ordered to pay a £32 surcharge and £200 costs.
Ben Reed Wilkinson, 28, of Oakes Road, Oakes, Huddersfield. Assaulted a police officer on Oakes Road, Huddersfield, on July 16, 2019 and resisted a police officer in the execution of his duty. Fined £370 and ordered to pay a £37 surcharge.
Daniel Melvyn, 32, also known as Daniel Hallatt, of Johnson Street, Lower Hopton, Mirfield. Deposited controlled waste without an environmental permit, namely several black bags of waste and a cardboard box, on Hagg Lane, Lower Hopton, between December 1, 2018 and January 8, 2019. Community order made and electronic monitoring curfew imposed for six weeks. Ordered to pay a £85 surcharge and £350 costs.
Akeel Iqbal, 18, of Savile Road, Dewsbury. Travelled without a valid rail ticket costing £4.80, from Dewsbury to Leeds on August 22, 2019. Fined £440, ordered to pay £4.80 compensation and a £44 surcharge, together with £150 costs.
Sarkhel Jamal, 24, of Arons Croft, Huddersfield. Travelled without paying rail fare of £13.40 between Huddersfield and Sheffield on October 2, 2019. Fined £440, ordered to pay £13.40, a £44 surcharge and £150 costs.
