DOZENS of well-wishers have donated cash to help a grieving family following the death of a 16-year-old schoolboy.

Tributes for Thomas Batley have begun to flood in after the Golcar youngster tragically died on the rail lines near his home on Monday.

An inquest will be held to determine the circumstances of the death.

A bid to raise cash for the Colne Valley High School pupil’s family has so far attracted more than 80 donations, raising more than £1,000 of the £5,000 target in just a few hours.

The Go Fund Me page was launched by Jacob Robshaw, who commented: “RIP brother” as he set up the fundraiser complete with a customised logo incorporating the England flag and the team logos of Huddersfield Town and the England football team.

He added: “We are trying to raise money to give to Tom Batley’s parents to go towards his funeral. Anything helps and is appreciated more than you know.”

A YorkshireLive reader known as Linfiter wrote on our sister website: “Absolutely heartbreaking to think that a young man with so much ahead of him, should find himself in the state, that he thinks there is no hope or help for him to overcome whatever his demons were.

“My condolences to his family and friends at this awfully distressing time. RIP young man, and remember everyone ‘Please be kind.’” Meanwhile, people commenting on the YorkshireLive Facebook page, expressed their sorrow at another life lost so young.

Rach Thompson said: “Fly high young man, so sad, thinking of his parents, family and friends.”

“I can’t imagine the pain his family are feeling right now,” said Kellie Marie. “My thoughts are with you all a this difficult time.”

“So, so sad,” said Nicola Robinson, “sending love to his family x.”
