MP: Light the blue lamp to honour NHS
SHOULD Huddersfield’s Castle Hill landmark be lit up in blue light in honour and celebration of the NHS?
Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman certainly thinks so.
Many landmarks around the country are being bathed in blue light to mark the efforts of coronavirus heroes in the NHS.
Wainhouse Tower in Halifax is one of those and the lights at the top will remain blue as a sign of Calderdale’s continued support for everyone working on the frontline during the pandemic.
Clr Tim Swift, Calderdale Council’s leader, said: “Day in, day out, staff throughout the country are going above and beyond in the battle against COVID19, often putting their own health at risk to protect others.
“Their kind and selfless efforts are truly commendable – they are real heroes. I’d like to thank every single health and care worker, every key worker and all the other people who are tirelessly doing everything they can to keep people safe and well.
Labour MP Mr Sheerman wants Kirklees to follow suit and said: “I think this is a great idea that Calderdale has come up with and I shall phone Shabir Pandor, leader of Kirklees Council, to ask if he can do the same here.”
And he joked: “It’s not often that I ask for Huddersfield to be turned blue but, on this occasion, I think it merits it!
“I would not just like Castle Hill to be turned blue but somewhere in Huddersfield town centre too.”
