Listed: All the essential shops still open for business
HUDDERSFIELD BID – the town’s business improvement district – remains open and operational. And so do many Huddersfield town centre shops and businesses.
Of course, Government lockdown restrictions means non-esential businesses have had to close indefinitely and people are only allowed outside their homes once a day, and only for food and medical essentials.
The Examiner has teamed up with Huddersfield BID and its manager Matthew Chapman to provide a list of those shops and businesses that remain open – for essentials only, don’t forget.
Matthew has a small but hard-working team who are determined to do their best for the town centre with short-term initiatives and longer-term projects.
The BID website and social media channels are regularly updated with key information at this difficult time so keep in touch with www.huddersfieldbid.co.uk/coronavirus-update
Matthew said: “Understandably this is a worrying and uncertain time for many.
“Huddersfield BID are committed to adapting and supporting businesses within the BID area to ease the pressure and look to put provisions in place to assist short and long term contingencies.
“One of the key short-term aims is identifying the businesses still open for business in Huddersfield.
“Now, more than ever, it is key to work in collaboration to ensure that when the crisis is over and normality returns Huddersfield is best placed to encourage people back into the town centre.”
BID is planning a series of initiatives including:
Hello Huddersfield – a dedicated destination website to showcase and celebrate all that Huddersfield has to offer. Hello Huddersfield will be a modern and quirky platform for food and drink, entertainment, visitor attractions, events, accommodation, blogs and much more;
Huddersfield Food & Drink Guide – this will be an exciting promotional guide to encourage foodies and those who like a drink or two to visit the town centre more;
Tart up the Town – deep cleaning of the streets including removing chewing gum, and the introduction of street art and vinyl coverings to brighten up empty shop fronts;
Street Ambassadors – an additional uniformed presence on the streets to promote and support businesses in tackling issues which affect them on a day-to-day basis. This team will be dedicated to advocating all things Huddersfield as well as being the eyes and ears on the streets. They will be supported by night-time street marshals;
A Wayfaring Plan – a key document to make sure Huddersfield town centre is open and accessible to everyone;
Parking – BID is working closely with Kirklees Council to combat the impact of the closure of the Market Hall car park. There are plans to open a new car park on the site of the old Huddersfield Sports Centre off Leeds Old Road.
Matthew said BID also wants to be a strong voice for business in the town centre. For more e-mail enquires@ huddersfieldbid.co.uk
