Virus-related deaths rise
CORONAVIRUS related deaths recorded across Yorkshire have risen again – with those in Calderdale and Huddersfield increasing the most.
NHS England confirmed 14 patients in Yorkshire have had coronavirus deaths recorded over the last 24 hours, compared to 31 on Thursday.
Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust reported that four patients died in the last 24 hours but their total number of deaths now stands at 19.
On Thursday it stood at just two . NHS England said the reason for the big jump was because more post mortems are carried out and tests discover Covid-19 resulting in a change in the data.
Kirklees Council has been handed more than £12m to help tackle the emergency at a local level.
The money - totalling £12,227,930 has been allocated as additional funding for local government and comes from a £1.6bn pot announced by Whitehall in March.
Announcing the funding last month Robert Jenrick, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local
Government said: “The work of local authorities to deliver social care and other vital public services has never been more important.
“That’s why we’re giving local councils £1.6 billion of additional funding, to ensure they can meet the cost of the increased demand for social care, and continue to protect the most vulnerable in society.”
Across the UK, the death toll continues to rise, with 684 people recorded to have lost their lives to Covid-19 over the last 24 hours.
This brings the total confirmed reported deaths in the UK to 3,605.
