NHS art tribute to decorate local business’ lorry

A 14-YEAR-OLD girl’s artwork will be immortalised on the side of a lorry that will be driven from West Yorkshire all around the UK.

Back in April Calderdale based engineering firm, TES MacDonald, called on youngsters to get busy designing an NHS themed poster to express the nation’s gratitude to health and care workers on the coronavirus frontline.

The lucky winner was to have their image made into a real life livery for a 44-tonne wagon trailer.

The entries flooded in and the winner has now been chosen. There was even a funny twist when a frontline doctor from a hospital in London entered the contest personally, not realising it was for children only.

TES MacDonald director, Mark MacDonald, said: “We had entries from far and wide and the eventual overall winner was Rose from Royston in Hertfordshire.

“Whilst we would have loved a local winner, there is absolutely no disputing that this is an incredible design which fully deserved to win.

“Although our judges thought long and hard about the fact that Rose was one of the older contestants in our competition, the quality and content of this design just ticked every box for them.

“It’s an absolutely brilliant idea, drawn to an incredibly high standard, creating a powerful and striking livery which will be instantly recognisable to anyone who sees it on our roads - a fitting tribute to our NHS Heroes and a thoroughly deserved winner.

“Rose will not only see her design onto a trailer, but she also receives a hamper full of goodies and £100 worth of online art vouchers together with the winning trophy.”

The Holywell Green firm is arranging for the trailer livery to be made and it will be towed around the UK by Suma Wholefoods.

A presentation is planned for when it’s ready and Mr MacDonald is hoping to get some of the other designs by children displayed in Calderdale and Huddersfield hospitals, in recognition of their work and so the staff could see how appreciated they are.

TES MacDonald has also raised in excess of £600 from an NHS Heroes sticker campaign it ran and it has reliveried its own truck in appreciation of the confused doctor who entered their competition.
