Terriers are in talks over extending player deals

THE Championship season is set to resume on June 20.

Huddersfield Town, like every team in the division, face a dilemma over certain players given the extended length of the season, which will reach a conclusion before the end of

July according to EFL chairman Rick Parry.

While Town have a bulk of the squad on deals beyond the end of this season, there are six loan deals in place, five of them with players who have been an integral part of Danny Cowley’s squad.

Jonas Lossl, Trevoh Chalobah, Emile Smith Rowe, Chris Willock and Kamil Grabara are all on temporary deals at the John Smith’s Stadium that are set to expire at the end of June.

Andy King, on loan from Leicester City, was on a deal that ran until the end of May but is still part of the Town training programme at PPG Canalside as the club continue to hold discussions with the Foxes over extending his stay.

As for the other five, Town chiefs are in dialogue with parent clubs to extend deals until the end of July to enable players to reach the end of the season with the Terriers.

Everton goalkeeper Lossl is expected to remain with the Terriers and see out the conclusion of this season.

As for permanent deals, clubs in the EFL will be allowed to offer players out of contract on June 30 a new short-term deal to enable them to finish the campaign.

Elias Kachunga, Danny Simpson, Collin Quaner, Joel Coleman, Jon-Gorenc Stankovic and Ryan Schofield are all on deals that finish at the end of June.

Kachunga and Simpson - a Cowley signing - have both featured heavily for Town since the former Lincoln City boss took over.

HUDDERSFIELD Town’s squad this season has largely included a core of players on loan from some of England’s biggest clubs.

Of Danny Cowley’s six current loanees, five of them come from clubs all chasing European football in the Premier League, as well as a former Arsenal man who is now permanently based in Portugal.

The Championship season is set to resume on June 20, just 10 days before five of Town’s six loanees are all set to return to their parent clubs.

With no guarantee of whether any of the six will have their loans extended so that they can play out the rest of the 2019-20 campaign, we have taken a look at how they have performed this season, as well as the importance they have in Cowley’s side...

ONE of two loanees bought in by Jan Siewert before his early-season sacking, the Polish goalkeeper has been Town’s first-choice for much of this campaign.

A regular under Siewert and then Cowley, Grabara played in 28 of the opening 29 Championship matches.

He suffered concussion and a bleed on the brain at the end of January following a collision against HulL City and has not featured since. He has kept five clean sheets this term.

THE England Under-21 international joined at the start of the campaign after a 2018-19 season that saw him impress in a poor Ipswich Town side that was unable to avoid relegation to League One.

Chalobah, a versatile 20-year-old who can play in defence and as a midfielder, has featured 30 times this term, scoring in only his second outing of the season.

Barring a brief spell on the bench, Chalobah has been a mainstay for the majority of this season, playing alongside Lewis O’Brien.

THE teenager has made a big impact since arriving on loan from Arsenal.

In 10 Championship appearances, the 19-year-old has scored once, as well as providing three assists, but his influence has produced more than just that.

Smith Rowe had only featured sparingly for the Gunners this season before his January switch and has helped turn Town’s fortunes around since moving to Yorkshire.

The Terriers have averaged 1.4 points per game when Smith Rowe has played.
