Tough run-in won’t help Cowley and his men

- By JONTY COLMAN

HUDDERSFIELD Town have one of the hardest run-ins to the end of the season compared to their bottom eight rivals.

The Terriers have nine games left to avoid back-to-back relegations when the season resumes on June 20.

Danny Cowley’s side do have an advantage heading into their final fixtures, with Town sitting 18th in the table, three points clear of the relegation zone.

However, while having a three-point gap over the bottom three, they do face a run-in that is tougher than most of their rivals.

Town have, on paper, the third hardest set of fixtures out of the clubs in the bottom eight. Their nine remaining opponents have an average league position of 12.1.

That’s higher than the opponents of

Luton Town (13.1), Middlesbrough (12.8), Stoke City (12.2), Hull City (14.0) and Wigan Athletic (14.7) Only Charlton Athletic (11.8) and Barnsley (11.2) have tougher run-ins.

Cowley’s side are in the unfortunate position of not playing many of their relegation rivals, others are not so lucky...
