Think of the future when planning our town centre
THERE has been a lot recently about Huddersfield Town Centre.
How to get the best from it. I have not shopped in Huddersfield for years as it is so depressing. It is too wide spread with a lot of emptiness in between.
It is excellent news the old indoor market is going – a blot on our town since it was built.
Let’s not make that mistake again for example great big billboards with graffiti daubed on them.
We have beautiful Georgian and Victorian buildings laying idle for example the former Courthouse.
There’s the Great Northern Retail Park with its narrow entrance and exit. Bring these shops into town.
The other retail park with Denelm etc – bring those shops into town.
This site would be a better site for parking than the old sports centre. You could put the 75 houses that are earmarked for
Lepton there. Making it easier for people to shop and get transport, cutting omissions.
Let’s have some future thinking not here today gone tomorrow. We don’t have to build something for the sake of it or that the money is burning a whole in your pocket.
If nothing else we have learnt from the terrible pandemic open spaces are just as important for people’s mind set.
Tell us how much our Council owes in loans
KIRKLEES Council, according to the is flashing the cash to other Councils, building societies and even to the company contracted to turn the old Co-op into student accommodation.
Millions upon millions of our cash is being loaned out with very little return of profit.
As I understand it, Kirklees Council has in excess of £500m, yes, £500m out in loans and other deals that the public are not being told about.
Now it is going to purchase the George Hotel for an undisclosed sum.
It is high time this Labour led Council put details of all loans into the public each month in the
Keeping negotiations secret is an outrage.
It’s our money this Council is throwing around.
Next it will be saying it is short of money and needs to put up our Council Tax to ever exceeding amounts that people are struggling to pay – and of course they will want to increase their so-called expenses.
It’s high time the public said no to any foreseeable Council Tax rises.
Let this spend, spend, spend, loan, loan, loan Council take a step back and look at ways to save money. Perhaps collecting unpaid rents and Council Tax could be a start?
Finally, how much have they borrowed from other sources which are still to be repaid?
Glad I’m not in Boris’ position right now
I AM sorry that Martin Charlesworth chose to expend so many words on my fairly tongue-incheek comments about scientists
The main thrust of my letter was that neither scientists nor politicians know any better than the man in the street how to tackle the pandemic as it is, as has been stated many, many times, unprecedented. Yet they have to make the decisions and face the consequences.
And no, Mr Charlesworth, I am no supporter of Boris.
He is a buffoon – but I am darned glad I am not in his position.
