Four detained in murder probe

HECKMONDWI­KE MAN DIED AFTER HE WAS STABBED

THREE more men have been arrested by detectives investigat­ing the death of Bradley Gledhill – bringing the total number of suspects detained to four.

A murder probe was launched by West Yorkshire Police after officers attended a fight at Park Croft, Batley, where Mr Gledhill was fatally injured.

His death sparked an outpouring of emotion on Facebook with heartbroke­n friends and relatives posting tributes in memory of the alleged murder victim.

A 19-year-old Batley man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday morning in connection with the incident and a 31-year-old man from Heckmondwi­ke has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team has now arrested three more men following early hours raids in Batley and Heckmondwi­ke.

Two men aged 18 and 23 from Batley and an 18-year-old man from Heckmondwi­ke, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 19-year-old man Batley man previously arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody, while a 31-year-old Heckmondwi­ke man arrested on suspicion of affray is no longer considered a suspect and has been released with no further action taken.

Police were called at about 10.28pm last Sunday 21 to reports of an altercatio­n on Park Croft involving a group of people.

Mr Gledhill, 20, who is from Heckmondwi­ke, suffered a stab injury during the incident, after which other persons involved fled the scene.

Two other males allegedly involved in the fighting also suffered serious but non-life threatenin­g injuries.

Senior Investigat­ing Officer, DCI Vanessa Rolfe of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “We are continuing a number of enquiries into this fatal incident in a residentia­l street in Batley and now have five men under arrest in custody.

“I want to thank residents who have got in touch with informatio­n so far and again encourage anyone who can assist our investigat­ion to come forwards, either to the police via 101 or the online Major Incident Public Portal system. This system allows relevant informatio­n, video and pictures to be sent directly to detectives investigat­ing offences. Reports can also be made anonymousl­y to the independen­t Crimestopp­ers charity.

“Any scrap of informatio­n could be important as we work to investigat­e this serious disorder which has led to two men being injured and a young man losing his life.”
