“That was agreed to be this Friday. We said we would close as soon as that was all done.

“We’ve taken advice from Kirklees and Public Health England. They said we could stay open but we’ve decided to close.

“We’re a reputable company, one of the biggest bed manufactur­ers in the country and we take our responsibi­lities seriously.

“Kirklees will be testing everyone between 9am and 12 and as soon as that’s done we’re sending everyone home.”

Batley and Spen MP, Tracy Brabin, said: “This outbreak has naturally led to a lot of speculatio­n.

“I have been in regular contact with Kirklees Council since the announceme­nt was made and have been informed that the company in question will now close for two weeks. I am glad that a mobile testing unit will be on site to test workers tomorrow.”

“The safety of local people is my absolute priority and that the virus does not spread further than it has. I am working to ensure every protocol is being followed by Kirklees Council, Public Health England and local business so that you and your family are as safe as possible.

“Please remember to follow the government’s advice closely and wash your hands regularly. Local businesses should also take this moment to look again at the safety and hygiene procedures in your workplaces, and if there is anyway of improving them, please do so.”
