“We still had a
couple
of disappointing performances in that - the Cardiff and Leeds performances we didn’t quite get to our levels, although Leeds didn’t allow us to.
“But other than those two games, throughout that period I thought we had a much better level of consistency.
“Now we need to try and find that in the last six games, which are six very important matches for Huddersfield Town.
“It’s very tight at the bottom of the league and everybody is winning, which very often happens in leagues when you get to this stage of the season.
“Ultimately, we need to put all our energy and focus on us and that’s what we’ll be trying to do.”
DANNY Cowley has lauded Huddersfield Town’s out-of-contract players for their professionalism in the club’s fight against relegation.
The manager fielded two of them from the start in the 3-0 win over Birmingham City at St Andrew’s Demeaco Duhaney and Elias Kachunga - and had three more on the bench.
One of those, German striker Collin Quaner, made his first appearance since August because of a hip injury and played the final seven minutes as replacement for scorer Kachunga.
The others were goalkeeper Joel Coleman and defender Jon Gorenc Stankovic - who did not get into the action
Stankovic has committed to helping keep Town from the drop despite agreeing terms to sign for Austrian side Sturm Graz next season.
As Town recover from the rigours of their biggest away win of the season and only their second of 2020, Cowley accepts he will need to draw on all his resources as he plans for tomorrow’s home clash with Preston North End and the five matches which follow in quick succession. “It’s not easy for the out-of-contract players, but we have real trust in all of them,” said Cowley, who has started Duhaney at right-back in the last two matches following the departure of Danny Simpson.
“Kacha is a good kid and a really good professional, it was great to see Collin going on and everyone knows what we think of Jon.
“They are good professionals but even better human beings and we have real trust in them.
“We will need all of them over this run of games.”
All Town’s out-of-contract players, with the exception of Simpson, agreed to extend their deals until the season is over.
While Quaner’s terms end when Town play their final game, the club have options to extend the deals of Duhaney, Kachunga and Coleman, plus two other players who were not in the squad at Birmingham, goalkeeper Ryan Schofield and forward Rekeil Pyke.
Town had an option to extend the terms of 24-year-old Slovenian Stankovic, but were prevented from doing so because of post-Covid financial constraints.
