DANNY Cowley praised Huddersfield Town’s resilience after they scrapped to a goalless draw against Preston North End.

The visitors dominated possession and efforts on goal, but Town dug in to claim what could be a crucial point in the battle to stay in the Championship.

Cowley said: “It was an important point, even though it was far from free-flowing.

“We weren’t able to play with the inensity at the top end of the pitch that we would have liked, but I have to credit Fraizer Campbell because he played when he was 60 per cent or 70 per cent fit and was willing to put his body on the line for the team.

“Neither him nor Steve Mounie had trained, but Fraizer’s previous injury was less of a risk, but we were basically having to pick a team to get to half-time almost.

“It wasn’t one for the purists but, when you don’t play well, especially at the attacking end, you have to keep the back door closed.

“We did that very well. The two centre halves, Stearman and

Schindler, again and Jonathan Hogg in front of them were exceptional.

“Preston had some possession, but they didn’t hurt us. They didn’t have a shot on target.

“We were a fragmented team when we lost at Preston in November, but we showed here a real unity.”

Preston boss Alex Neil said he was happy with the clean sheet because his side haven’t been keeping enough, but he was frustrated they didn’t make more of the set-piece chances they had. He said: “I think if anybody deserved to win it, it was us. But it was not a classic by any means.”
