CARLOS IS NEW BOSS

-

they have now achieved.

It is understood that Leeds seriously viewed Corberan as a potential successor to Bielsa down the line and are known to have convinced him to stay in the face of previous head coach offers, but it would appear the allure of taking immediate charge of Town was too strong for him to turn down.

The new head coach faces a huge squad rebuild but chairman Phil Hodgkinson is clearly confident that Corberan is capable of delivering the more exciting brand of football he is known to crave, with head of football operations Leigh Bromby saying Corberan ‘believes in a high energy, high intensity, attacking style of play.’

The financial situation created by having been forced to play games behind closed doors also means that Town are likely to need to depend on a number of young players next season.

Corberan having had a foot in both academy and first-team football for a hugely successful Leeds side may therefore have played an additional part in making him such an attractive prospect for the Terriers.

He was at Elland Road to say his final farewells to the Leeds players and coaching staff as they celebrated their promotion on Wednesday evening.

Academy coach Danny Schofield instead led the Terriers as caretaker manager in a 4-1 defeat to end the season.

That result meant Town finished the season in 18th place, just three points outside the drop zone, with their disastrous nine-game winless start to the season costing them any realistic hope of getting out of the relegation battle over an arduous season.

Terriers fans will be desperately hoping their new head coach can inspire an upturn in the club’s fortunes.
