CARLOS Corberan has been confirmed as the new head coach of Town.
The 37-year-old Spaniard succeeds manager Danny Cowley, who was sacked on Sunday – though Corberan’s role will be head coach, not manager.
Town surprisingly chose to make a managerial change despite safety from relegation to League One being all but confirmed by their 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Friday night.
The statement on the Cowleys’ departure indicated they were not seeking applications, and it quickly became apparent that Corberan was firmly in the frame for the role.
He has been at Leeds for the last three years as under-23s manager and took on additional first-team duties after Bielsa’s arrival the following year.
Leeds successfully fended off interest in Corberan last summer, convincing him to stay and work with the team as they pushed for promotion to the Premier League, an objective
KARLAN Grant has dropped a strong hint about a summer transfer window move from Town.
The 22-year-old frontman scored his 19th goal of the season to round off the Championship season as Town were soundly beaten 4-1 by Millwall at The Den.
Town’s leading marksman then took to Twitter to say: “It’s not been a easy season.
“But we came through with the objective and stayed in the division. Time to rest up and be ready for the next challenge.
“Personally happy to hit 19 for the season. Gutted I couldn’t get 20 but we moveeeee! Thanks for the support.”
Reference to ‘the next challenge’ and ‘we moveeeee’ suggest the next time he kicks a football it may not be in blue and white stripes, although it could be interpreted otherwise.
Having delivered on his pledge to help keep Town up, Grant remains a wanted asset with rumours of a possible move to West Brom.
