wingman Diakhaby going to Nottingham Forest and Mbenza playing for Amiens.

Two other players, Reece Brown and Flo Hadergjonaj, also went out on loan to Peterborough and Turkish side Kasimpasa.

So what does the future hold for these players as they return to Town, especially the first three who made it clear they wanted to leave when Danny Cowley was manager?

“That’s up to Carlos,” explained Town’s head of football operations

Leigh Bromby. “The conversations on that Carlos will decide.

“When he comes in he will assess all those players.

“He has watched them all already, so he has a great idea of which ones he likes.

“They will all have an opportunity in pre-season to come back into the group – Carlos will have the final decision on those players.”

With money tight following the coronavirus pandemic and chairman Phil Hodgkinson keen to manage the wage bill, Bromby insists the decisions will be driven by football rather than finance.

“I don’t think they will be financial decisions,” said Bromby.

“He has to assess them on whether they fit what the club want to do moving forward.

“We know we took some players from the Premier League to the Championship and the club did really well in terms of those contracts and it being a manageable situation.

“Carlos has to make football decisions on them and I know for a fact the club will back him.”

Bromby added: “Let’s be honest, some players will leave because they want to.

“There’s been a lot gone on at this club over the last two years and some players might not want to play for the club, and it’s something we want to change. “Through their actions we will see over the next few weeks and months if they want to be here. That’s the most important thing.

“Some players will leave because they want a transfer or they will request a transfer.”

They will have an opportunity in preseason. Carlos will have
