TOWN midfielder Lewis O’Brien has emerged as the landslide winner of the 2019/20 Player of the Year award.

The award was as usual put up to a public vote and thousands of Terriers fans took to the poll to have their say.

O’Brien, 21 emerged as the most resounding winner of the award in years as he received 65 per cent of the vote.

Reigning two-time winner and captain Christopher Schindler came second in the poll with

10pc of the vote, while top scorer Karlan Grant came third with 7pc.

After impressing Jan Siewert in several pre-season friendlies, O’Brien made his senior debut away to QPR on August 10, 2019, and quickly captured the attention of the fans with his gutbusting efforts, boundless energy, inch-perfect recovery tackles and ability on the ball.

He scored his first senior goal for the club to put the Terriers ahead away to West Bromwich Albion the following month, and claimed multiple man of the match awards for his performances in October.

His thunderous strike into the top corner away to Barnsley on his favoured left foot in January won O’Brien the Championship goal of the month award.

A stellar performance at home to West Brom in the penultimate game of the season helped the Terriers to clinch safety from relegation, with a brilliant O’Brien pass setting up Emile Smith Rowe’s winning goal.

The energetic central midfielder follows in the footsteps of such luminaries as Terry Gray, Mark Lillis, Jon Worthington, and Andy Booth in becoming the 12th Town youth product to take home the Hargreaves Memorial Trophy.

However, O’Brien now holds the distinction of being the first Town academy graduate ever to win the award in his first senior season for the club.

TOWN could have a gem on their hands after poaching Carlos Corberan as head coach from archrivals Leeds United.

That’s the view of the Examiner’s Leeds United writer over at Leeds Live, Beren Cross, who has outlined Corberan’s legacy.

Cross points out that the new Town boss, who was previously Leeds’ under-23s head coach, quickly earned the trust of head coach Marcelo Bielsa following the Argentine’s arrival at Elland Road in 2018, quickly earning an additional
