Loans have to be right for business of the club

- By MEL BOOTH @examinerHTAFC

TOWN admit they could explore the Premier League loan market once again this summer as Carlos Corberan builds his squad – but their business have a different emphasis.

Town brought in five players from the top flight last season – goalkeepers Kamil Grabara (Liverpool) and Jonas Lossl (Everton), Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea), Andy King (Leicester City) and Emile Smith Rowe (Arsenal), in addition to Chris Willock from Benfica – and that recruitment was focused solely on helping the club avoid relegation.

New head coach Corberan has already spoken with chairman Phil Hodgkinson and head of football operations Leigh Bromby about the transfer window work to be done ahead of the big kick-off on the weekend of September 12.

So can we expect more Premier League loan players?

Perhaps, but the club have made clear they will not bring in any loan signings who do not offer an immediate and significant improvement over what they already have.

“I think the club did excellently in bringing in those loans, as they really helped the squad,” commented Bromby. “It’s something which has worked really well over a number of years for Huddersfield Town.

“So there will be an area where we will look at that (loaning from the top flight), but going forward if there is a loan, we would want it to be a possible option (to make it permanent). Carlos can develop players and improve them so we feel we don’t want to do too many loans.”
