Baggies still keen to take Grant back to the top flight
WEST Brom are looking into a deal that would take Karlan Grant to the club before the transfer window shuts.
The Huddersfield Town striker scored 19 goals in the Championship last season but was left out of the Terriers’ Carabao Cup defeat to Rochdale over the weekend.
Albion are desperate to add a further attacker to their ranks as they look to give themselves the best chance of making an impact back in the Premier League, and Grant is high up on their shortlist.
BirminghamLive revealed Albion had identified Grant as a target in January. At that time, Huddersfield weren’t pressured into selling and, amid a relegation battle, then boss Danny Cowley was understandably keen to hold onto his talisman.
Albion turned instead to
Callum Robinson and Kamil Grosicki as the Baggies secured promotion.
That interest doesn’t appear to have diminished in the meantime, with Grant continuing to score goals into the second half of the campaign.
The striker fits the bill for what Albion are looking to do. He’s a forward who will soon turn 23, and impressed in a struggling Town side during his previous, fleeting, spell in the top flight.
Grant is a player, much like the already recruited Matheus Pereira, Cedric Kipre and Grady Diangana, who still has his best years ahead of him and who would represent an investment with potential re-sale value.
Albion have worked hard in recent windows to bring the average age of the squad down where possible – it currently stands at a smidgen over 26.
Town head coach Carlos Corberan has previously said: “I can understand the interest in Karlan Grant because what he did at this club is something amazing. I can understand when you have one player at his level some clubs are going to be interested in him.”
WITH only four weeks on the training pitch, a raft of injuries, some coming into the side having barely trained, and several raw young players in the squad, this kind of performance and result was always a distinct possibility.
Carlos Corberan told us to expect a line-up like this, with the head coach choosing to stick with some of the youngsters who had done well for him in Huddersfield Town’s pre-season friendlies.
As such, from the moment the teamsheets came out to Corberan’s
