CARLOS Corberan has confirmed striker Danny Ward will miss the busy festive period with a hamstring injury which is set to keep him out until the new year.

The news will come as a blow to the Huddersfield Town boss who will also be without goalkeeper Ben Hamer for the game at Coventry City tonight.

Ward was taken off 56 minutes into the Terriers’ 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon and replaced by Isaac Mbenza.

It was only the striker’s second start of the season after he missed the first two months of

ON the back of their 5-0 thumping at Bournemouth, Town are not fancied to get anything from their trip to Coventry City.

At least, not with Sky Sports pundit David Prutton.

The Terriers went down to their heaviest loss of the season on Saturday after shipping three goals inside the opening 20 minutes, and being unable to wrestle back the momentum the campaign with a previous hamstring issue and he will now unlikely return before the FA Cup game at home to Plymouth on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

It means Ward is likely to miss games against Coventry, Watford, Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers and Reading during a frantic end to the year.

Corberan is already short of attacking options with top scorer Josh Koroma out for three months with a hamstring injury.

Goalkeeper Hamer also went off halfway through the heavy Championship defeat on the south coast and his replacement Ryan Schofield is now set to feature at Coventry against a which they have tossed away in a shocking start to the match.

Despite the fact that defeat came on the back of two good wins over Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday, the chances of a returning to winning ways for Carlos Corberan’s men has been brushed aside by Prutton. The Sky Blues may sit below Town in 18th place in the Championship table but are side who are seven games unbeaten in the Championship.

There is no news at this stage whether Hamer will be fit for the weekend.

There is some good news on the injury front with Jonathan Hogg returning to training this week and the midfielder is in contention to play having missed the Bournemouth loss.

“Ben Hamer doesn’t have a serious injury but he isn’t available for the Coventry City game,” explained the boss Corberan.

“Danny Ward will be out for a couple of weeks.

“Hogg was training yesterday and today with the group. He’s available with the squad.

“Demeaco Duhaney was training today and is available to be in the squad too.”

The Terriers had recorded back-to-back 2-0 victories in the Championship prior to their 5-0 thumping and will be hoping to get back on track ahead of the Christmas period as they travel to Coventry – with a game at home to Watford to follow on Saturday. unbeaten in seven games and enjoyed a 2-1 victory at Wycombe Wanderers last time out.

Of the two, they’re the form team and Prutton is expecting the match to go to form. He said: “Keep an eye on Coventry. Mark Robins’ side found points hard to come by in the first two months of the season but since the November international break, something has clicked.”
