Shut village pub to be converted to homes in plan
A PROPERTY developer has revealed plans to turn a village pub near Huddersfield into two homes.
The Commercial at Outlane was once the Pub of the Week but plans have now been submitted that would see its days as a hostelry ended forever.
The pub, which was closed anyway due to Covid restrictions, was sold earlier this month with the landlady moving on, the
understands. Bradfordbased businessman Kash Singh has now applied to remove the New Hey Road boozer’s status as a public house.
The official ‘Change of Use’ application says he has plans to redevelop it as two houses.
Documents lodged in the submission to Kirklees Council planning department show the pub being converted into two four bed semi-detached properties with a dormer added to the roof on both sides.
Both homes would have parking for three cars and small gardens at the rear.
In applying, Mr Singh says: “The owner of 982 New Hey Road fully recognises the importance of the premises previously, but the recent trend in public houses’ demise has resulted in the business being deemed unsustainable.
“This has translated through to the lack of maintenance and repair on the property.
“The owner now fully intends to apply the necessary investment in order to create two new houses that will bring life back into the property and also provide family accommodation within this predominantly residential area.
“There are some alterations in terms of door and window openings, but careful consideration has been made to ensure the existing building’s aesthetics generally remain as existing.”
The plan is open for public consultation until January 28.
