Think closer to home... buying, and behaviour

-

SO many people have worked so hard to make this Christmas special I would like to express my thanks.

The Winkles. Putting up decorations and trees and suddenly appearing with sweets for the children.

The environment group. Cleaning the village despite some very bad weather.

Providence. Sending a host of angels to fly around the village settling on doorsteps and other places.

The local Facebook group. Keeping us all in touch.

Whoever made those lovely little Father Christmases and left them for children to find.

Golcar band. Turning out despite all the difficulties.

Everyone who decorated their houses for others to enjoy.

All the shop keepers, delivery people post workers, health care workers and many others who have looked after us.

St John’s Church. The advent trail. Thank you to everyone who joined in with this. It has been such fun.

If I’ve missed you I can’t apologise enough.

So, I can’t wait now until we can all meet up on May 8, 2021 for Golcar Lily Day

Happy New Year to you all.

NOT once has a minister or our PM tried to lay the increase in Covid transmissions on the public. Yet we have a constant barrage of abuse for what some see as their failings in stemming the pandemic. When we know where the problem lies for the increasing numbers. We still have local shoppers going into stores without face coverings, truly unbelievable.

Hindsight is a wondrous thing, sadly our PM and his advisors do not possess this quality which others such as “Hindsight Starmer” seem blessed with. Mistakes have been made but none ever intended. Boris Johnson has repeatedly stated that the government would follow the science in tackling this virus. Remember Covid is a worldwide problem with other countries experiencing the same if not worse problems as ourselves. For some reason their problems are slow to be highlighted in our news media.

I read many letters both in the and the daily papers with a split regarding the government and their advisors performances. However these letters do tend to lean toward the government doing a remarkable job under very difficult circumstances. There are critics as there always shall be. We have letters in the

from the same people constantly disparaging the PM and his ministers for their efforts in stemming the Covid virus and at the same time finalising a deal with the EU. I do wonder if these letter writers pray for failure to give them more fuel for their fires.

For the new year we need to get the Covid vaccine fully rolled out and the recent EU deal ratified. Some arrogant EU leaders have truly shown what they think of the UK. It will shortly be up to us to show them what spirit the UK has.

A starting point would be to return to the old slogan, “Buy British”, supporting our home market. I decided to steer clear of purchasing anything made in China. My progress is challenging due to China having its fingers into everything. However I have had one recent success thanks to Mr Macron and that is in the vetoing of French wine.

Where did our industrial revolution go wrong? Huddersfield’s manufacturing industry is a prime example of the decline over the decades. It is now down to our Kirklees administration to tempt manufacturers to the area.

Stopping the spread is down to us.

Four weeks is a long time to wait

BIN collectors provide a very good service and I’ve no problem with them having a week off at Christmas, but to imply that we will have to only wait another week to get the bin emptied is misleading.

My grey bin is emptied fortnightly and was last emptied on Tuesday, December 15, and I’ll now have to wait for it to be next emptied on January 12, a total of four weeks. This is a period when most of us have more rubbish than usual.
