A TOWN fan has penned a heartfelt open letter to the club, after Saturday’s dismal defeat at Preston.

Town’s winless run on the road now stands a 12 games as the Terriers inch ever closer to the Championship drop zone.

A glance at social media is usually a good barometer for what the fanbase of any club is feeling – and Paul Coates’ three-page letter to the Terriers, shared on Twitter, sums up the supporters’ reaction.

In it he makes a number of points, including: “Why is there such a disconnect between the club and its fans?” and “The legacy that this club should have had is gone – it has been thrown away.”

Referring to the club’s Premier League relegation, he writes: “The best part of it though was the thought that after being strugglers, fighting each year to stay in the Championship, that when we inevitably came back down it would all be so much different.

“The promotion would set us up for a decade – we’d come down eventually with all the tools to have a push at getting back... so where did it all go wrong?”

The reception to the letter has been positive from Town fans.

wrong?

Shane Bates replied, saying: “Perfect choice of words. Doesn’t come across as anger but expresses how hurt we all are by the current regime and results on the pitch. Keep writing!”

Another, Darg Barnett, said: “It is sadly accurate, but it needs saying.”

Town will hope to get back on track tomorrow night, when they host fellow strugglers Birmingham City.
