performance analyst before departed for a two-year spell as a recruitment analyst at Manchester United in 2016.

He returned to the Terriers as head of academy recruitment in 2018 and took over from current head of football operations Leigh

Bromby as academy manager in February 2020.

Speaking to podcast What’s Next?, Humphreys said: “People ask about our recruitment all the time and from my point of view and my background it’s the most interesting part of what we do, because we have got a completely blank slate to bring in a new group every year.

“There’s no secret recipe to it really, there’s just a lot of hard work watching a lot of games, getting a lot of players through the door, speaking to a lot of people, doing as much networking as we can and getting our eyes on as many players as possible.

“We don’t have a huge scouting network. It’s mostly done internally by a select few of our recruitment people. We work with agents and closely with other clubs to get to know about the players they might be releasing and potential opportunities like that. “We do a lot of trials and try and do things a bit differently and use new technologies and try to be at the front of anything like that new ways of scouting, new ways of thinking about players and networking and all of that sort of stuff.

“But it basically comes down to just working hard and seeing as many players as we can. It’s not overly complicated.”
